I met little Bennett when he was 12 days old, which is right in that first 2 weeks of life sweet spot that an Orange County newborn photographer would like to photograph a newborn. They are old enough to have their breastfeeding or formula feeding down, yet still malleable enough from being curled up in the womb, in order to go into beautiful poses for their photos. Sleepiness usually stems from how good of a feeding they got, but they are usually still pretty sleepy at this age. By week 3, their day/night reversal may be over, which is good for mom and dad! Not so good for us newborn photographers ;)
Bennett gave me a run for my money! He was an EXCELLENT eater, and his mama followed her parent prep guide that I include for all of my clients, but he was just so interested in the world around him rather than sleeping! He was also excellent at pooping. This is COMPLETELY normal for a newborn photography session! Please do not be concerned about your newborn baby peeing or pooping on my blankets or props - I fully expect them to do so, and I take precautions (read: diaper or breast pad) for the more delicate items which would be trickier to watch.
He did give us some beautiful photos, and it was obvious how absolutely smitten mama was with her new love, her 3rd child.
